So it begins... again

For the umpteenth time I have decided to start a blog.  Every time I do, I write a couple of posts and then get distracted.  Why do I find it so hard to write a 'diary' when I'm living my ordinary life?  When I was living in Africa it came naturally - the new experiences and world around me lent themselves easily to flowing descriptions, philosophical musings and (more often than not) stoned ramblings.  I have a written record of every emotion, adventure, mishap and every lonely hour spent in strange countries where I was the stranger.

Here, however, in the familiar comfort of my home, amid the humdrum experiences of the daily routine of sleepwakeeatworksleep, I seem incapable of sticking to it.  And so, here I am attempting to record for posterity in words and images, some of my experiences.

I have no delusions that they will be of interest to anyone other than myself - and yet, I do hope that by sharing parts of my personal and working life with others, I will add one more perspective for anyone wishing to look back on what my generation was doing in the early 21st century.  I fear future generations will look back with recrimination and ask why did not do more to prevent climate change while we still had a chance, or why we did not do more to stop 1 billion people going hungry every day whilst their rich neighbours to the North became obese from overconsumption.
