I'm interested in learning how to make and use videos to raise awareness and spread the word about some of the campaigns that I'm involved in. In particular I'm keen to make a short film explaining the impacts of meat production and consumption. I've only just recently gone veggie again after a week spent at a European youth conference where the stark truth of the environmental and social impacts of the meat industry were laid bare before me. Did you know that all of the world's carbon emissions from the transport sector (ie. planes, trains, ships, trucks and cars) are dwarfed in comparison to the emissions generated by the production of meat? I'd heard something vaguely like that in the past but some of the workshops and discussions I got into at this youth conference really hammered it home. The facts are indisputable. 18% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions come from meat production - I guess it makes sense when you think about the vast tracts of rainforests that are being cleared every year to grow yet more soy to feed yet more cattle.
This revelation also came at the time when in my professional life I'm starting a new role at work - designing and launching the activism strategy for our new Sustainable Livestock campaign. How timely!
Anyway, here's my very first ever attempt at using my iMovie software to put together a short film. The Video Change course gives us a new assignment each week and Week 1 was to make a 1 minute film introducing ourselves. Mine's a bit boring, but I did it in a rush last Sunday afternoon!
